You Don’t Have to Be in Hollywood to See the Stars

July 03, 2018

Renowned for its natural beauty, mystical legends, and fascinating geological makeup, Enchanted Rock State Natural Area is a favorite destination for ardent stargazers, as well as hikers, cavers, rock-climbers, birders, picnickers, and geocachers. Awarded “Gold-tier” night sky status by the International Dark Sky Association, its lack of light pollution makes for optimal night sky viewing, often allowing visitors to see the Milky Way. Situated just north of Fredericksburg, Texas, thousands climb this large and historic pink granite dome annually, as the top also offers spectacular views of surrounding scenery and nearby rock formations.

The most passionate stargazers make the climb and nestle on blankets among the rocks. For all visitors, the Park advises bringing your own drinking water and snacks or picnic foods. Enchanted Rock truly is a stargazer’s dream site. Be sure to watch for one of their “Rock Star Parties” or night hikes that are held at different times throughout the year. You’ll find the stars at night really are big and bright right here in the Texas Hill Country. To make reservations for your own stargazing party, call us at (830) 257-4440.
