A Hill Country Cultural Tradition: The Fredericksburg Theater Company

May 07, 2018

Most culture vultures probably wouldn’t expect to find a tradition of theatrical excellence here in the Hill Country, but the Fredericksburg Theater Company is proof that superior theatrical programs not only exist but are regularly performed here. Thousands descend annually on the Steve W. Shepherd Theater to watch stellar performances in this intimate, 250-seat venue. Now in its 21st season, the theater has justifiably accrued a reputation for professional-quality entertainment.

The Fredericksburg Theater Company’s repertoire over the years has been varied, performing such plays as the Charles Addams-based, “The Addams Family: A New Musical Comedy,” to such traditional Broadway favorites as “Guys & Dolls,” “Noises Off,” “Hello Dolly,” and “Barefoot in the Park.” The little ones are included here as well, with shows such as “Disney's The Little Mermaid Jr.” and “Disney’s Beauty and the Beast.” Such holiday performances as “It's A Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play,” “A Tuna Christmas,” “Amahl and the Night Visitors,” and “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever?” are eagerly anticipated every year.
