Texas Artistry: James Avery Jewelry

June 04, 2018

Delicate silver filigree earrings and bracelets, stunning turquoise and silver rings, and an eclectic array of charms in silver, gold, and art glass: since 1954, James Avery’s uniquely designed and artisan-crafted jewelry has graced the limbs, lobes, and necks of jewelry lovers across the country. The company’s first retail store was established right here in Kerrville in 1973, followed by stores in Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio. The company now owns and operates 50 of its own stores throughout the country, with thousands of designs and pieces made with gemstones, gold, and silver.

His work was often known for its religious influences; and Avery’s designs also included a variety of designs and specialty pieces, such as a silver “Whataburger” charm, bracelet, and necklace as a tribute to the state’s popular burger chain. Additionally, all proceeds from the sale of his “Deep in the Heart of Texas” charm went toward Hurricane Harvey relief efforts. Sadly, James Avery passed away in April 2018, at the age of 96, but his legacy of distinctive design and craftsmanship will continue to live on for many years to come.
