Red, White, and Beautiful

July 01, 2017

Summer is officially here, and with the season comes so many of life’s little pleasures: fireworks illuminating the night skies on our most American holiday; picking a ripe, juicy peach right off the tree, and packing a picnic, loading up the car, and taking the family for an old-fashioned pleasure cruise down Highway 16. Guests of the Y.O. Ranch Hotel are invited to come early and stay on after the holiday to explore all of summer’s gifts that Kerrville and the Hill Country have to offer.

On July 4th, the City of Kerrville will kick off summer with the 4th of July on the River celebration. The day-long event ends with a star-spangled fireworks display that begins at 9:00 p.m. And, if you’ve never tasted a sweet Hill Country peach, you won’t believe what you’ve been missing. Gary Marburger of Marburger Orchards near Fredericksburg grows 13 different varieties, all of them ripening in stages until the first part of August. Finally, one of the most breathtakingly scenic drives you will ever take is located on a 30-mile stretch of Highway 16 between Kerrville and Medina. Look for local color mixed in with vintage live oaks and pale yucca flowers.
