Go Barefoot: Grape Stomping in the Hill Country

April 02, 2018

For true wine aficionados, there is nothing like the thrill of stomping freshly-harvested grapes, and the Hill Country offers an abundance of wineries that offer visitors and guests a chance to participate in this time-honored practice. Since many wineries harvest their grapes at different times throughout the year, the following is a list of those to visit when planning your Hill Country getaway. Check out Dry Comal Creek in New Braunfels for the opportunity to stomp and collect as a team, with top juice producing teams pronounced as winners.

A commemorative Grape Stomp tee, adorned with your own grape-stained footprints, can be had at Pedernales Cellars in Stonewall, while Westcave Cellars in Round Mountain offers music and barbecue to their stompers. Other grape stomping grounds include the Hye Meadow Winery and William Chris Vineyards in Hye, Fall Creek Vineyards in Tow, and Messina Hof and the Chisholm Trail Winery in Fredericksburg. Be sure to go online or call ahead to check for dates and times, and be advised that fees or ticket purchases may be required, depending on the winery.
